What do you do when you love your neighbourhood but your home no longer fits your lifestyle?
For one family in Willow Park Estates, the answer was simple: don’t move, transform.
With the help of Bond Contracting & Construction Inc., what started as an aging mid-century home became a fully reimagined, modern living space designed for today and the future.
Reimagining a Classic Home
Willow Park Estates is one of Calgary’s most established communities known for its tree-lined streets, spacious lots, and proximity to the golf course.
But like many homes in the area, this property was over 60 years old. While full of character, it no longer met the needs of modern living.
The homeowners loved their location but recognized that their home needed a complete rework. The existing layout was compartmentalized, storage was limited, and the functionality did not fit their long-term plans.
Instead of leaving a neighbourhood they loved, the homeowners made a decision, invest in a complete transformation. They turned to us to help them reimagine what their home could become.

Navigating the Challenges of an Older Home Renovation
This was not a simple remodel, it was a full-scale renovation and addition. The homeowners wanted to significantly change the layout, which required removing multiple load-bearing walls. Structural work of this nature is complex and must be handled with precision to ensure long-term safety and performance.
Removing load-bearing walls meant installing long structural beams, both steel and engineered wood. These changes triggered the need to relocate large portions of the home’s existing plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
In addition to structural complexity, the scope of the work was extensive. It included a home addition, a completely redesigned kitchen, multiple renovated bathrooms, an updated main level laundry area, a fully developed basement, and the installation of several fireplaces. To enhance outdoor living, the project featured newly constructed concrete decks, including a covered space designed to accommodate a hot tub.
This level of complexity required expert planning, precise execution, and seamless coordination across trades.

The Vision: A Home Designed for Real Life
The homeowners had a clear goal, to create a home that works for their day-to-day life. One of their key priorities was to build a main-floor primary bedroom, complete with a walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom. This allows for comfortable main-level living while maintaining privacy and space.
They also wanted a main-floor laundry room for daily convenience, along with a new kitchen designed for both cooking and entertaining. The kitchen needed improved flow, modern finishes, and efficient storage that matched the homeowners’ lifestyle.
A complete basement development was included to maximize usable square footage, providing flexible space for guests, recreation, or family activities. The main floor family room with a fireplace was designed to be a central gathering area, while the outdoor decks added another layer of comfort and usability.
In total, the renovation and addition combined to create approximately 4000 square feet of renovated and newly built living space.
The Solution: Expert Planning, Structural Execution, and Team Coordination
We brought that vision to life through careful planning and hands-on project management. The process began with demolition and structural upgrades, opening the home to create bright, connected living spaces while maintaining structural integrity.
As framing progressed, the crew strategically relocated plumbing, electrical wiring, and HVAC components to align with the new layout. Every system was updated to meet current building standards, ensuring safety, efficiency, and long-term performance.
Throughout the eight-month renovation, a rotating schedule of skilled trades was carefully managed, including framers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, drywallers, and finishing crews. Clear scheduling and consistent communication kept the project moving efficiently despite its size and complexity.
Building Through Calgary’s Seasons
With construction extending into the fall, the team also faced cold weather challenges. Snow and cold temperatures can affect both materials and timelines if not properly managed.
To keep the project on track, we implemented tarping and temporary heating where needed to protect exterior work areas. These measures allowed construction to continue safely and maintained quality standards during colder weather conditions.
These measures ensured work could continue safely while maintaining quality, no matter the weather.
The Result: A Complete Home Transformation
After eight months, the results speak for themselves. The finished home is almost unrecognizable from its original state. The layout now flows naturally, with open living spaces, defined gathering areas, and improved access to natural light.
The main floor primary suite provides comfort and convenience, while the updated kitchen serves as the heart of the home. The developed basement adds valuable living space, making the home more flexible for future needs. Fireplaces placed throughout the home add comfort and visual appeal, while the concrete decks and covered hot tub area create a seamless transition to outdoor living.
Every element of the renovation was designed and built with the homeowners’ goals in mind, resulting in a home that feels cohesive, modern, and tailored to their lifestyle.
